Job Description


The jobholder supervises and coordinates activities of cleaning staff. This role is essential for ensuring that staff meets standards of cleanliness and sanitation. A chief steward supervises the staff in cleaning and sanitizing all areas of the restaurant for the benefit of the customer and also to provide a healthy working environment for the employees. The jobholder also, is responsible for all cleaning product stock levels and ensuring that the correct cleaning materials are used on the appropriate restaurant and kitchen equipment.




  • Completes operations by ensuring all schedules are followed; assigning and monitoring work; gathering resources; implementing productivity standards; resolving operations problems; maintaining reference manuals; implementing new procedures
  • Training and orienting new workers into the department and briefs them on the rules, policies and objectives of the company
  • Organising the work schedules and assigning each member of staff specific duties
  • Adhere to cleaning schedule and ensure duties are completed efficiently
  • Monitoring and actively encouraging teamwork ensuring company standards are met
  • Passing on information from upper management to employees and vice versa
  • Ensure kitchen and restaurant areas are kept clean and tidy at all times
  • Ensure correct cleaning materials are used to clean equipment
  • Assist with checking of deliveries into the restaurant
  • Store deliveries in the appropriate areas adhering to correct stock rotation principles
  • Assessing the performance of the staff
  • Assisting the team where necessary
